This National Architectural Project Competition was organized by Çanakkale Municipality in 2012. The project of SCRA and CBN Architecture, winner of the competition, was completed in 2023. With this project Çanakkale gained a very valuable structure and a special public space.
The project land is adjacent to Demircioğlu Street and Atatürk Street, which are important arteries of the city, and to neighborhoods consisting of dense residential and commercial settlements. Therefore, it has great potential for public use. Considering the density of user approach roads, the perimeters of Atatürk Street and Demircioğlu Street were created as a “city square” to allow use by the citizens.
The hollow and permeable structure of the building floor strengthens the relationship of the building with the square. The entrances placed on the western and eastern facades provided urban permeability and access in the West-East direction. The city square offers citizens a public environment with different functions that can be used independently of the building.
