Mezzaluna Yas Mall

The starting point of the lighting design for Mezzaluna at Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi was to create a bright, inviting lighting scheme that complements the Mediterranean spirit of the interior architecture. Designed by Wangan, the restaurant features warm yellow and blue tones, stone textures, and Mediterranean motifs—elements that guided the lighting design toward a cohesive and identity-enhancing approach.

Throughout the project, we had the opportunity to work in coordination with multiple international teams and stakeholders. Abu Dhabi’s diverse cultural context was thoughtfully interpreted through Mezzaluna’s Mediterranean-inspired concept. Rather than applying strictly localized lighting solutions, a more holistic and general lighting approach was adopted, emphasizing light’s ability to unify spaces. This approach preserved the soul of the interior while supporting a cross-cultural dining experience.

In the general lighting scheme, the sense of brightness and openness was maintained, while dining tables were defined through dedicated lighting scenes. Alongside technical luminaires, decorative pendants were used to bring together architectural elements and light at specific focal points. By washing vertical surfaces with light, spatial boundaries became more legible, while ceramic surfaces and Mediterranean-patterned details were subtly accentuated.
