MACFit Lotus Nişantaşı

Planlux participated in the development of an architectural lighting design scheme for MACFit Lotus Nişantaşı by Mars Sportif. We set out again to develop the new lighting design concept for the Macfit Lotus project in Nişantaşı, Istanbul. The iconic brand of gyms is opening in the new shopping center of Nişantaşı. It is designed as a “post-pandemic” gym to support the design heritage we all know and like.

We were commissioned in 2014 and managed to design more than 70 projects. We wanted lighting design to embrace the characteristics of the brand where transforming lighting identity into a visitor experience. According to the quick project design processes and low budget requirements, we have created a lighting template to follow a way for a quick response while considering the fundamental lighting quality needs.

The lighting scheme, which was created to solve different scaled spaces and short project processes, is updated after about 10 years and takes on a new look.

Macfit Lotus project is a highly significant innovator for Mars Sportif Group. After a better understanding of the global health issues we are in, it is aimed to encourage people to go back to gyms. People can come together while training and feel safe, away from stress in that inviting and spacious place.

It is one of our priorities that the dark/black ceiling colors, which were in the design approach of the past, are not preferred for this project.

The turquoise color is planned to soften the contrasting ceiling tones and provide a sense of height/spaciousness with a balanced indirect definition.

Also, another improvement in this design is the general lighting approach, which was preferred in the past. The local highlighting will positively affect the mood of the users by replacing this with a softer ambiance and adding dramatic elements to reduce feelings of stress and fatigue.

In addition to engaging the senses, the continuity of the rhythm and atmosphere in large areas is ensured by emphasizing the axis endings at the beginning and end of the area.

The colorful use of filtered light is now seen as a part of the identity of the area and
accurate perception of colors with the use of high color rendering light sources in the general areas of the gym. It also promotes a sense of user-scale spaciousness.
