MAC / One Ataköy

While bringing architectural lighting design to life for the MAC/One A Plus Ataköy gym, redesigned as part of Mars Sportif’s renovation of the existing facility, Planlux embarked on a journey to shape the essence of the space through the power of light. Located inside A PLUS AVM, this unique sports center offers visitors an exclusive experience spread across two floors. From cardio and weight areas to group studios, boxing and cycling studios, as well as spa and relaxation zones, every detail has been meticulously designed to create a holistic environment for both physical and mental well-being.

The primary goal of the project was to establish a spacious and serene atmosphere where every visitor could feel safe, comfortable, and free from stress. To achieve this, the balance of brightness between the floor, ceiling, and walls was carefully designed, taking into account the impact of natural light on the space. Light not only illuminated the environment but also served as a guiding element, allowing users to experience the energy of the space.

At the entrance, the iconic metal mesh wall and dragon-embossed backdrop came to life through lighting. A linear wall-washing line transformed this area into a central focal point, making the texture and details of the wall visible from every angle. This highlight ensured that MAC/One made a memorable first impression from the entrance.

In the main hall, where mirror-covered walls meet stone details, the expansive glass façade connects the cardio area with natural daylight. However, balancing this natural light with a well-structured lighting design was crucial for maintaining the desired atmosphere. A structured grid system with custom-designed fixed and glare-controlled track spotlights ensured a balanced general lighting level, while specially crafted circular pendant wash fixtures for the large cylindrical columns added depth and definition to the space.

For the GFX area and group boxing studios on the upper floor, flexible track spot systems were used. This design allowed for localized lighting adjustments, making the space adaptable for various uses as needed. The cycling studio, on the other hand, was designed with a dynamic color-changing linear RGB infrastructure, creating an energetic atmosphere. This space became more than just a workout area—it transformed into an immersive experience where colors and movement interact.

In the locker and relaxation areas, light-colored natural materials and patterns were chosen to create a soothing ambiance. The goal was to design spaces where users could not only physically unwind but also achieve mental relaxation. These areas, supported by high-cutoff-value luminaires, reflected simplicity and naturalness.

The spa and relaxation zones were carefully designed with a focus on tranquility, featuring low light levels. Point lighting accents and wall-washing details enhanced contrasts and strengthened the architectural atmosphere. These spaces offered visitors an immersive lighting narrative where they could fully embrace calmness and serenity.

Throughout the design, high color rendering index (CRI) lighting sources were used to ensure accurate color perception and provide a refreshing sense of openness for users in every corner of the space. MAC/One A Plus is not just a gym—it is a transformative experience where light interacts with space, creating an emotional journey for visitors.
