Ara Güler Museum, Leica Monochrome Galataport

Planlux participated in the development of architectural lighting design scheme for Ara Güler Museum, Monochrome Brasserie, Galataport, Istanbul. Interior architecture by Wangan.

The space brings three brands ARA GÜLER MUSEUM SHOP, MONOCHROME BRASSERIE, and LEICA, together in the center of Galataport Istanbul.

The attractive core with 3d texture forms the center. The functions gather around this striking structure. The adjustable vertical walls form the exhibition spaces, while the use of more organic textures and colors in the cafe section makes the space interesting. There are two ceiling types. While the wooden ceiling defines the cafe area, the metal ceilings cover almost all other areas of the space.

So the lighting solution had to be flexible and practical enough to adapt to different functions.
We planned the space to serve brasserie, retail, and exhibition functions by placing track spot systems in the niches created between metal suspended ceilings. We decided on 48V track spot systems for relatively more minor lighting elements compatible with the scale of the space while providing the technical solutions required in exhibition lighting.

This adjustable lighting system formed the basis for the planned emphasis on the attractive service counter for the cafe area and also table location changes.
Although the ceiling and flooring types of this 3-function space are different, the 3d-wood formed center mass provides continuity at the space’s heart. This charming mass, intended to be continuously illuminated from the bottom and top with flexible linear luminaires to increase the perception, was partially supported by the track spot settlements positioned around the area to increase the emphasis even from outside.
The successful use of DALI-based luminaires in the whole space, changing the intensity, angle, and depth according to the area and function with planned scenarios, enhances the project’s success.
